The mass production time of TSMC (2330) 3 nanometers again attracted the attention of South Korean media. Business Korea, a Korean media, reported that TSMC had once again delayed the mass production of 3 nanometer chips by three months. In this regard, TSMC said that the development of the 3 nanometer process was in line with expectations, with a high yield rate, and it would be mass produced later in the fourth quarter.
Industry insiders pointed out that the reason why the Korean media used the word "delayed again" was related to TSMC's initial statement that "3 nanometers are expected to be mass produced in the second half of 2022". The Korean media may think that "the second half of 2022" refers to "July", but they did not know that the fourth quarter also fell in the second half of the year. TSMC's 3 nanometers do not have the problem of "delayed mass production".
After Samsung announced on the last day of June that 3 nanometers were "on schedule" for mass production in the first half of 2022, South Korean people have been proud of "Samsung's 3 nanometers lead TSMC's mass production". According to the latest report of Business Korea, TSMC has again delayed the mass production of 3 nanometer chips by three months, allowing Samsung, which has already mass produced 3 nanometer chips, to stabilize its position and improve its strength, and to share the space occupied by advanced manufacturing processes.
For TSMC's mass production schedule of 3 nanometers, President Wei Zhejia mentioned at the French conference a few days ago that the progress of 3 nanometers met expectations, had a good yield and would be mass produced later in the fourth quarter. Driven by high-speed computing and smart phone applications, customers' demand for 3 nanometers exceeded their capacity.
