OpenAI is accused of using articles from news outlets to train ChatGPT

Major news outlets have already criticized OpenAI and its ChatGPT software, saying the lab is using their articles to train its AI tools without paying them.

Jason Conti, general counsel for News Corp.'s Dow Jones unit, said in a statement provided to Bloomberg News: "Anyone who wants to use the work of a Wall Street Journal reporter to train an artificial intelligence should do so from Dow Jones. Get proper authorization. Dow Jones has no such deal with OpenAI.”

"We take misuse of our journalistic work seriously and are reviewing the situation," Conte added.

Those News Corp concerns arose when computing journalist Francesco Marconi tweeted this week that their work was being used to train ChatGPT. Marconi said he asked the chatbot for a list of news sources it had been trained on and received a response listing 20 organizations.
