Meta has shifted its focus from the metaverse to AI
Meta CEO Mark Zuckerberg has stated that AI will be the company's future focus, shifting its primary goal from the metaverse to the rapidly growing field of generative AI. In the "year of efficiency" restructuring, Meta's largest investment will be in advancing AI and incorporating it into every product.
In the past few years, Meta has concentrated its research and development spending on the virtual reality (VR) sector. The company has invested heavily in its VR head-mounted display product line and VR game platform, Horizon Worlds, and top executives have touted the metaverse as the future of the company.
However, the current focus seems to have shifted to AI, with Meta seemingly prioritizing AI over its metaverse efforts. The company insists that it will not completely abandon its VR projects, and Zuckerberg "guarantees" that building the metaverse and shaping the next generation computing platform will continue to be a core goal for the company.
