The United States banned the export of advanced chips and related manufacturing equipment to China. The US management team of Dutch semiconductor production equipment manufacturer ASML issued an internal letter to its employees in the United States to stop providing services to Chinese customers according to the new regulations of the Biden administration. .
According to the letter, the ban applies to all U.S. employees, including U.S. citizens, green card holders and aliens residing in the United States. Employees shall not directly or indirectly provide equipment shipments, repairs or other support services to any Chinese customer until further notice from the company. The company is also evaluating the scope of the regulation's impact.
ASML's head of corporate communications, Monique Mols, has confirmed the existence and authenticity of the email, saying: "It was a genuine communication, but not intended to be made public." Mols also said the company will take precautions to ensure full compliance with the new regulations when assessing new export control restrictions, and will further issue new instructions to employees once the assessment is complete.
