Zhang Zhongmou, founder of TSMC, said in an American TV program that if economic well-being is the top priority of mainland China, the mainland will refrain from using force. However, once the war occurs, all semiconductor industries such as TSMC will disappear.

According to the Liberty Times, Zhang Zhongmou was asked in the CBS "60 Minutes" program on October 9 local time whether TSMC would be "nationalized" by mainland China in the event of war. He replied that once there was a war, TSMC would be destroyed and "everything would be destroyed".

However, Zhang Zhongmou said that if the Chinese mainland takes economic well-being as the top priority, "I think they (Beijing) will avoid attacks".

Li Ximing, former chief of staff of Taiwan, also participated in the same program. When he was interviewed, he pointed out that the threat of the Chinese mainland attacking Taiwan continued to exist, "it is not whether it will, but when". He also said that what Taiwan needs most are bayonet missiles and javelin missiles, not warships, fighter planes and other large-scale armaments, but these are not in the Western primary supply list.

When asked whether the Taiwan military has wasted time on the acquisition of large armaments such as fighter planes in recent years, Li Ximing replied: "I believe that Taiwan has no time to waste."
